FOREWORD

I have chosen the title, STEAL THIS BOOK TOO!, for the unambiguous reason that I have always thought that Abbie
Hoffman’s, Steal This Book, is a great title.  The suggestion of this title is that it does not matter if you purchase the book,
so long as you read it.  I am of the attitude that you should read my work by any means; so please, STEAL THIS BOOK
TOO!
Abbie Hoffman was a leader of the Youth International Party in the social turmoil of the 1960’s.  He believed that identity
is defined by myth transmitted through the media.  His career in political activism began with his work for the Student
Nonviolent Coordinating Committee in the South.
After he published the two books, Fuck The System, and Woodstock Nation, Hoffman was constantly being informed of
all kinds of societal swindles.  He recognized that this information of ways to beat the system could be made into a
practical list for his Yippie movement.  Steal This Book was more than a manual of survival in the counter culture world.  It
got so much attention that the New York Times called it, a Hip Boy Scout Handbook, as well as being on their list of best
sellers.  Among the chapters on, Free Food, and First Aid for Street fighters, Abbie's thoughts on freedom, liberty,
responsibility, and self-reliance were significantly obvious; his idealism corresponded with the thinking of such greats as
Henry Thoreau and Thomas Paine.
Hoffman had remained relatively straight until 1966 when he began taking drugs and began the loosely organized Yippie
movement.  He underwent plastic surgery in 1974 and assumed the underground alias of Barry Freed to avoid trial on
charges of possessing cocaine, though in 1980 he did surrender to authorities.  In 1987, Hoffman was arrested for the
forty-second time while protesting CIA recruitment at the University of Massachusetts.  Hoffman is quoted as saying, “It's
embarrassing when you try to overthrow the government, and you wind up on the Best Seller's List”.  Regrettably, on
April 12, 1989, Hoffman was found dead at his home; his death was later ruled a suicide.
Sadly, with Steal This Book, Hoffman desired social change by manipulating society’s inadequacies, and bucking the
system.  It is obvious that deception, protesting, violence, and even revolution, are poor means of social change.  They
rarely succeed in obtaining the desired goal.  Hoffman was not wrong for wanting social change; he just did not go about
it in the proper manner.
Overthrowing the Government is at best, an unrealistic ideal; however there is a way that society can change in a
peaceful manner. The primary intent of Steal This Book Too! is to share a personal vision of a more harmonious
existence for humankind.  Additionally, to bestow upon humankind the essential knowledge required for comprehending
why we humans have become what we are, and behave the way we do, as well as the knowledge needed to change as a
society.  There is a song that states, “I’d love to change the world, but I don’t know what to do”; it just so happens that I
do know what to do.  If we are ever to subsist in a peaceful manner, we must first understand why we have become what
we are, and what drives us to do what we do.  Only then will we possess the insight to alter our wretched existence, and
perhaps save our species, as well as all other remaining species on our planet.  This compilation of information is based
on scientific fact, as well as conjecture.  It is the outcome of considerable research and contemplation, and while it is not
entirely contemporary conjecture, it is indeed logical, as I base all of my reasoning strictly on logic.
A person that contemplates information or thoughts to the point of forming theories is fundamentally a philosopher.  A
philosopher is no more than a thinker, a person that contemplates information and ideals towards a theorem.  When
those theorems are presented to the masses, the philosopher is faced with his perceptions being the subject of public
scrutiny, and or at risk of being misconstrued.  A philosopher must understand that the individual perceptions acquired
from his theories are subject to further contemplation, and will likely be distorted from the initial intent.  In other words, the
philosopher’s perceptions are altered, as all individuals perceive things differently.
Before an individual can begin to comprehend the theories and philosophies that I am presenting within these writings,
they must first recognize that any theory, by its own nature, is constantly subject to change.  As a theory is not fact, it is
conjecture; thus, the theory ends when it becomes a fact.  Logic dictates that the blending of fact with conjecture can
lead to new fact.  Logic also dictates that conjecture itself can indeed become fact.
Consequently, it would seem that philosophy is a perpetual entity within itself, as no person can fully accept another
person’s convictions, thereby perpetuating the theorems metamorphosis.  Because of such perpetual scrutiny,
philosophy is an unending craft, that with a bit of luck humankind will never cease to pursue.  Is it not the philosophies of
our predecessors that have helped to bring us to the current level of understanding that we possess today?  Perhaps if
humankind would spend more time contemplating what we really are, instead of how we can make life easier by abusing
our planet, plundering ceaselessly as though it did not matter at all, we would have a much more content and secure
existence.
A discussion on our complex spoken language is included in this work with the intent of giving an understanding of the
differences in languages, and perceptions of the many societies that share our world.  Just as each society is individual,
each person is just that, an individual.  Therefore, when I make a statement to anyone, whether it is an appeal, or to
enlighten, or convince, what is in mind is a request, or theory, or understanding, which I intend him or her to
comprehend.  However, this idea developed from my mental representation of the world, which is the product of my
distinct individual life history.  Nobody else has exactly the same mental representation of the world, since nobody else
has experienced my individual life history.  Thus, no one person can have exactly the same ideas that I have.
This compels us to recognize that one never knows what another person means by what they articulate or scribe.  One
can only make an educated guess, taking into account all the information that is available from the communications
content, and ones own related knowledge, as well as from the linguistic gesture.  In other words, I cannot know what
concept is in your mind as you articulate or scribe.  I can only know what concepts I would have had in mind if I had
produced the same sentence structure as I believe you have produced in the context that I think, you think, we presently
possess.
I am taking the liberty of including dictionary definitions of several words that are relevant to this work, as understanding
the meaning of all words is necessary if one is to have a full understanding of any literary work.  As well, it is difficult for
an author to project his or her full intention with the literacy of the reader not reaching his or her level.  For this reason,
should a reader not comprehend a particular word, I shall suggest that he or she take the time to look up its meaning.

Philosophy, from the Greek philosophia, (philos, love and sophia, wisdom) or love of wisdom.  Defined as; The science
which aims at an explanation of all phenomena of the universe by ultimate causes; the knowledge of phenomena as
explained by, and resolved into, causes and reasons, powers and laws, a particular philosophical system or theory; the
calm and non excitable state of mind of the wise man; practical wisdom; course of studies for the degree 'Doctor of
Philosophy'.
Philosopher, from the Greek philosophos, (philos, love and sophos, wise).  Defined as; A person versed in or devoted to
philosophy; one who devotes himself to the study of moral or intellectual science; one who conforms his life to the
principles of philosophy; one who lives according to reason or the rules of practical wisdom.
Philosophize, defined as; To reason like a philosopher; to form or attempt to form a philosophical system or theory.
Theology, from the Greek theologia, (theos, God and logos, discourse), defined as; The science of divine things, or of
the Christian religion; the science which treats of God and man in all their known relations to each other. Theologize, to
theorize upon theological subjects. Theologizer, one who theologizes. Theologian, a person well versed in theology; a
divine.
When a person contemplates religion, that person may not be a Philosopher, that person is indeed a Theologizer.  That
would be the case if the person were a sort of Philosophizer merely contemplating religion.  However, should that person
be in a position of stature within a Christian Religion, he is a Theologian, and by definition, is divine.  The Philosopher by
origin of the word is merely a lover of wisdom.  It is absurd that if a person’s contemplation involves the Christian
religion the honorarium is divinity, an honorarium, which at best is a shroud for corruption and abuse of power and trust.
It is ironic that the word theology is a derivative of the Greek language, yet it is used as Christian terminology.  The
Greeks worshiped many of their own Gods, completely contrary to the Christian belief in one God.  It is curious how easy
it is to dissect the inadequacies in humankind’s beliefs.
The fact is that throughout humankind’s history, we humans have worshiped many different Gods, and only by fortune,
usually by force of mite, have any of these Gods remained in acceptance at all.  This is sufficient proof for me that
humankind is merely in need of an explanation to our existence.
Essentially, most humans are simply in need of a crutch to get through their miserable existence.  For most people in all
present-day societies, this kind of thinking breaks down the very fiber of their existence, the very thing that keeps it all
together for them.  Just as language has dispersed across the globe, being distorted into new dialects, religions have
gone through the same progression.  What must be understood is that just like all languages, spiritual beliefs have a
common ancestry, and have been distorted into the many beliefs we find today.
These writings contain several theorems and many opinions that will displease many people.  My contentious
theorems will anger the heterosexual males, who, for lack of better expression, are running the world.  The very notion
that heterosexual man may not be responsible for civilization breaks down their pretense of total power.  The
creationist's, with their closed minded intellects, who do not even recognize fact, let alone conjecture, no matter how
logical it may be.  The so called, moral majority, who cannot even see that basic human rights, such as equality, no
matter the race, or sexual orientation, are the right of all humankind.  The big-money, right-wing capitalists, who could
care less about anything other than their precious, and almighty dollar; too, and including, the planet that they live on,
and their fellow human beings and animal species.  The Christians, each, and every sect of this apparently confused cult
who cannot even agree on how to worship their god.  All of these people, and others not mentioned, will all, without
doubt, be offended and denounce these theorems, and philosophies.
Every year there are exciting new discoveries of our ancestors and the environments that they existed in, changing
theories into facts; or killing them outright.  By better understanding the environments from which our ancestors evolved,
we can more easily put the puzzle together.  The old theory that we evolved on the African Savannah has now been
proven not to be true.  It was a far more complex environment that perpetuated our evolution; one of many ecosystems
that not only formed our species, but also created the conditions that inevitably formed our society.
The commonly accepted force that drives evolution being natural selection does not fully explain why a species is
capable of making the necessary biological changes that enable it to better exist in any given environment.  The notion
that a species would be so fortunate, as by chance, to have offspring with changes that benefit its existence in an ever-
changing environment is illogical at best.  The concept leaves far too much for chance to be a viable speculation on its
own.  That is not to say that Darwin was incorrect, as he was indeed correct; he merely did not complete the theory.  I
have extended the theory, and simply stated, biological modifications are the result of deliberate thought, which are then
perpetuated by natural selection by means of heredity.
All living creatures have the capacity for thought, and it is that ability itself that creates evolutionary change.  When
faced with new obstacles, or environmental changes, a living creatures thought is what produces the changes on a
cellular level that insures a species survival.  This concept of evolution is more logical, as the survival of the species is
guaranteed by the necessary changes being created, not by the changes simply occurring by chance.  It is also
logical that some changes can indeed occur by chance, or mutation, though it would be unlikely that any significant
changes would occur in a timely manner for a species to survive any radical environmental changes.
Many creatures have remained the same for millennia, is it not logical that mutation and heredity are likely not the
actual force behind evolution, but the driving force is in reality thought.  For if mutation and heredity were the key, would
it not be true that all creatures would be subject to constant change, therefore subjecting them to more unproductive
than productive changes, especially if the environment remained constant. One must consider that the creatures that
have not needed to change for millennia are from areas where there have been no significant climactic or environmental
changes since these creatures populated these areas.  Therefore, it is not hard to determine that mutation and heredity
are both genuine phenomenon, and are part of the process, however they do not drive evolution.  It is thought that is the
driving force behind evolution, while mutation and heredity assist in perpetuating the positive changes.
If there is any doubt as to the ability of the female of any given species to control the perpetuation of the species,
consider the following.  A scientist who studied snakes had in his possession since its birth an adult female rattlesnake.
The drive to perpetuate her species was so strong that, although she had never mated with a male, let alone even being
in the same cage with another rattlesnake that may have been mistaken to be female, she gave birth to living neonates.
This is compelling evidence that females of a species are capable of manipulating physiological processes to perpetuate
their species.  In this instance, the female rattlesnake was faced with the realization that she could not perform her
biological imperative of procreation, thus, she created the necessary sperm herself to accomplish this objective.  This is
not divine intervention, nor mutation, it is thought.
Personally, I am plagued with many congenital defects, which certainly are a deterrent to my well-being.  Perhaps our
high intelligence has hindered our capacity for creating positive evolutionary changes; thusly we are plagued with
detrimental changes, instead of advantageous changes.  Alternately, perhaps our artificial life-style has hindered the
ability.
As a species, we are doomed; with survival of the fittest being the means of the consequence.  It is obvious that through
our artificial life-style we are only extending the lives of the weak, and perpetuating an intolerable gene pool.  This has
been an evolutionary consequence of thousands of years before contemporary medicine, and is the direct result of
sending our strong, vital youth to war to die.  The direct result of these actions has caused our extremely high inherent
degenerate gene pool.  Furthermore, it is quite apparent that we as a species have lost the ability to create positive
biological changes, and consequently are on a crash course to obliteration.  If survival of the fittest is nature’s way, then
we are perpetuating unfit life by allowing the ailing to survive, and reproduce in an unnatural state.
The creatures of the world that have remained virtually unchanged for millions of years have had no significant
environmental obstacles to overcome.  They have established their position within their ecosystem; therefore, they have
had no reason to evolve past their current evolutionary position.  Before the results of our so-called intellect began to
create monumental environmental changes, it took enormous natural occurrences to create devastating changes.  The
rate of extinction on a global scale has increased by thousands of times the natural rate in less than one hundred years;
this is the result of our selfless plundering of this planet.  The mass extinction of the dinosaurs was the cause of an
asteroid, or some other celestial object colliding with the earth.  Obviously, there was little time for any changes that
could have saved those creatures to occur thusly they vanished.
The mass extinction that eradicated the dinosaurs is the topic of numerous debates, as are the dinosaurs themselves.
The most logical conclusion for their disappearance, the one based on fact, is the impact theory.  Scientists are still
debating whether these creatures were warm-blooded, or cold-blooded, and what happened to those that did not suffer
their demise.  One theory, based on anatomical similarities, is that the remaining relatives of the dinosaurs are the birds.
That theory too, is the subject of many debates, which supports my assertion that theories are subject to constant
scrutiny and change; additionally, ignorance surrounds this controversy.  If you take the velocaraptor as it was portrayed
in the movie Jurassic Park, it was a large t-rex-looking creature.  In reality, this creature was the size of a modern day
turkey.  Additionally, there is fossil evidence of preflight dinosaur type birds with feathers that supports this theory.
That theories change, is of great significance to this writing.  I put forth not only new proven theories of our past, but my
own unproven theories as well.  That they are not what most people want to hear is exactly why I must provide them for
scrutiny.  One last example of new findings changing old theories is the discovery of the Ice Man in the Italian Alps.  The
Ice Man is a perfectly mummified human male who was dated at over five thousand years old.  His skin, eyes, clothing,
and accessories were all preserved in ice for all of those years.  A surprising bronze tool was
among his accessories, and is evidence that the Bronze Age, which was supposed to have been
some two to three thousand years ago, was indeed much further in the past.
Other surprising artifacts were included in his collection of accessories.  A particular species of
fungus, which is known to have antibiotic properties, was dried, and kept with this traveler for
instances of infection.  This is conclusive evidence that medicinal plants were used at least that far
back in time and likely much further.
Another interesting and revealing phenomenon was that the Ice Man had many tattoos on his
body.  The presence of tattoos was surprising, but the location of these tattoos was of greater
significance.  The locations were in perfect synchronization with acupuncture points throughout
the body.  It was formerly believed that acupuncture was originated in China, much later than five
thousand years ago, but that theory too has been debunked by the Ice Man.
The implication of the knowledge possessed by these peoples is that they had an awareness of
their environment, and bodies that is being lost by modern civilization.  We must strive to gain a
new awareness, or at least rekindle what we had, so that we may cast off the dangerous concepts
of our so-called civilized society.  We must accept what we are, and were we come from, if we are
to expect humankind to survive.
One of the first steps in this vital enlightenment is to accept our lineage to the apes.  The fact of
our lineage to the great apes, though disputed, is no less a fact.  The behavior of chimpanzees is
not very dissimilar to our own, and it has been determined that we share ninety-eight point eight
percent of our DNA with our cousins.  The bonobo also shares ninety-eight point eight percent of
our DNA, and the gorilla shares an even ninety-eight percent with its skeletal structure being quite
similar to ours.  The behavior that some people think makes us superior to the apes, they in fact
possess themselves.  Our superior intelligence is defined by our ability to reason, or have
thought.  It is illogical for any person to think that the great apes have no power of reason, or that
all other living creatures lack that power as well.  All animal species have their own ways of
communication, which vary considerably, as well as the ability to make decisions, and to change
biologically to ensure survival of their species.
The great apes all have the ability to communicate thought, and express feelings.  There are many
factors and reasons for the differences between our cousins the great apes and we humans.  It is
the bonobos, who did not leave the protection of the forest, that perhaps have not remained
exactly the same, nonetheless have not experienced the need to change to the same degree that
we have.  They were never faced with the harsh realities of life outside of their domain; they have
had no particular need for any measurable change, biological, or social.  Though we have evolved
into different creatures, we are not all that dissimilar to our cousins the bonobos, and we can learn
a great deal about ourselves from them.
It is our close association to the bonobos, and chimpanzees that I base our need to change our
society on.  Though our social behavior is more closely related to the chimpanzee, the bonobo
society holds the answers to how we can better get along.  As a social group, the bonobos are
superior to we humans; their behavior is far more peaceful than ours is, and they certainly do get
along far better than either chimpanzees or humans.  The societal structure of bonobos is such
that they do not subject themselves to social standards that are impossible to abide by.  Despite
the fact that we come from a common ancestor, for reasons of survival only, we have evolved
differently, regrettably for us, not for the better.
Steal This Book Too, succinct as it may be, is based on my conjecture of humankind's origins and
links to our past that have been intricate in molding the pathetic existence we have created for
ourselves as an animal species on this planet.  If my scrutinies of humankind do not become clear
to you, it is likely the outcome of being closed-minded.  I do sincerely hope that all who read this
book will stop and think about why we are the way we are.  If I can enlighten you to just one aspect
of why people act the way they do, then maybe you will be one step closer to becoming a Human
yourself.  Please read the information with an open mind; try not to let your preconceived views
cloud your perception of the evidence, and or theories that I present.
In chapter one you will learn about our family of primates, including the great and lesser apes,
concluding with the bonobos, which I have dubbed the greatest apes.  In chapter two, I have
provided an epigrammatic perusal of Charles Darwin, who perhaps did not single handedly
produce the evolution theory, he did bring it to fruition.  In the following chapters, you will also
learn some controversial theories about how our ancestors evolved into what has become the
human animal that we are.  In the interest of completeness, I have included a chapter on Bigfoot,
and the other related creatures that hold great controversy.  Also included is an epigrammatic
perusal of Sigmund Freud, who gave to humankind a better understanding of our confused mental
state than any other human prior to his existence did.  In addition, you will discover some
interesting information on language, religion, politics, and society.  Then finally an insight into how
we, as an animal species may learn how to insure our future on this planet.
Though I am not a scholar in the formal sense, I have spent years investigating, and contemplating
why humans are such confused and violent creatures.  That I am not formally educated may be
advantageous in that any preconceived notions of academia do not cloud my views.  I have
researched facts, as well as theories, resulting in my own theories, and philosophies.  Most of the
theories presented in this work are my perception of known theories, while others are my own
conjecture of how we became the animal that we are.  Regardless of how the theories were
fashioned, and the information collected, the knowledge gained by you reading them is the sole
purpose of this work.
